Dear Our Lady of Peace Family,
The Our Lady of Peace Knights of Columbus Council 14282 is hosting a Valentine Day Sock hop in our gymnasium on Saturday, February 10 from 7-10pm.
The Council, of which I am honored to be the Deputy Grand Knight, is a small but active group of men dedicated to our faith, our fellowship and our parish. We do a lot of work for both the parish and the community at large: monthly Sunday Mass donuts, charity work for McArthur, Ohio, monthly rosaries after the 8:45 Mass on the first Sunday of each month, the Measure up campaign for Special Olympics and SPICE, support for our seminarians, sponsoring the Pinewood Derby and the basketball free throw contest (which will be held during the school day this year), Keep Christ in Christmas card contest and coats are some of our activities. I am sure that I have forgotten some.
Just as the parish and home and school association tried something new with our parish festival this year to great success, the Knights would like to have the whole parish and school community of adults as well as adults from the community turn out for a good old fashioned dance in our gym. Dances in the gym are usually reserved for sweaty seventh and eighth graders at the beginning of the school year. We want to establish a great casual dance for adults of all ages. Proceeds will be used to purchase the coats we buy for children who otherwise cannot afford them.
The cost is only $25 per couple or $15 for a single. Your ticket will include Hot Dogs with all the fixings, Sliders, Fries, Chips and Pretzels, Regular and "special" milkshakes, soft drinks and a Cash donation bar. It will be a rockin’ and rollin’ night!
Cameron Wallace will be our DJ that evening in our newly remodeled facility that includes a ramp so that that everyone has access to the dance. The evening will include a limbo and hula hoop contest, a best dressed sock hop couple contest and a 50/50 cash raffle.
The Knights have been hosting Valetine’s Day Dances in our cafeteria for a number of years. Two years ago, we took the dance to Mozarts. Last year we moved the date to the spring with limited success. One of the limitations at Mozart’s, who were very generous by donating their space for free was that we had to hold the dance on a weeknight. Although the food was delicious, the cost was high.
So, this year we are back to the drawing board with a social event that we hope will bring all the adults of the community together for fun at an affordable price.
Tickets can be purchased through this link. Tickets will also be available for purchase beginning January 15 in our Gathering Space.
We would love to see a large crowd of couples and single adults fill our gym on February 10. It’s for a great cause and the Knights will greatly appreciate your support!
